چکیده

“ Octopus ” rubescens Berry, 1953 is an octopus of temperate waters the western coast North America. This paper presents first record O. from tropical Mexican Pacific. Twelve octopuses were studied; 10 collected in tide pools five localities and two mature males caught by fishermen Oaxaca. We used morphometric characters anatomical features digestive tract to identify species. The along Pacific provide solid evidence that populations this species have become established waters.

Octopus tetricus (Mollusca: Cephalopoda) as an ecosystem engineer ; Octopus tetricus (Mollusca: Cephalopoda) como ingeniero de ecosistemas

The Sydney octopus (Octopus tetricus) occurs in unusual numbers on a shell bed of its prey remains that have accumulated as an extended midden where additional octopuses excavate dens. Here, O tetricus are ecosystem engineers, organisms that modulate availability of resources to other species and to their own species by causing physical state changes in materials. A community of invertebrate gr...

Mechanism of the Spermatophoric Reaction in the Giant Octopus of the North Pacific, Octopus Dofleini Martini

In the giant octopus of the North Pacific, Octopus dofleini martini, the male reproductive tract contains up to 10 spermatophores. Each is about a metre long. It has a tube-shaped body surrounded by a tough, thin membrane, the 'outer tunic'. The body consists of two parts. The thicker part, which during copulation emerges first from the 'penis', contains the sperm rope with IO-IO tightly packed...

Laboratory Growth, Reproduction and Life Span of the Pacific Pygmy Octopus, Octopus digueti'

Octopus digueti Perrier and Rochebrune, 1894 was reared through its life cycle at 25°C in a closed seawater system using artificial sea water. Two field-collected females produced 231 hatchlings: 193 hatchlings were groupcultured while 24 were isolated at hatching and grown individually to allow precise analyses of growth in length and weight over the life cycle. All octopuses were fed primaril...

The Effects of Uv Radiation on Adult and Larval Behavior and Chromatophore Size in Octopus Rubescens

Ultraviolet (UV) radiation—especially UV-B radiation—can have detrimental effects on marine larvae and elicit behavioral changes in many adult marine organisms. Although there has been a considerable amount of research on chromatophores in marine organisms, little is known about the relationship between cephalopod chromatophores and exposure to UV-B radiation. This study investigates the effect...

Phylogeographical Analysis of Octopus Vulgaris (mollusca, Cephalopoda) in the Mediterranean: Insights from the Coi Mitochondrial Gene

This work reports a genetic data of Octopus vulgaris, marine species of high commercial value, from nineteen localities of Atlantic, Mediterranean and the Adriatic regions. We used mitochondrial DNA cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene to investigate the genetic structure of common octopus. Our results indicated a significant genetic structuring in the study area (Phi = 0.136, P <0.001) an...
